MISE-EN-SCENE

This is a still image of a short film opening credit using images from the net and making them our own using photoshop.
I made the Mr men books as they used to be the only books i used to read when i was younger and Nathan used to like them so they were good memories of child hood for us. I was first going to personalize  it so it had our names as the Arthur of the book but the internet wouldn't tell me the exact font used for it so i settled for calling the Mr men by our surnames.
We have a gameboy which suggest the film could be like a big game or because me and Nathans face are inside the gameboy it could mean we are both being controlled by someone throughout the film. We have marvel comic which has me and Nathan competing against each other, which shows there could be two sides  competing for one thing, with business men which are the Mr men books.
I think this still reflects my childhood very well as i used to love spiderman and superman, Mr men books and gameboys.

James Ward second session.

In the second session with James Ward he taught us about the other types of model making. He also talked about the different factors that effect model making such as the time spent and materials used and also different types of tools used.
He showed us a few of the tools he uses, he said the best tools are the ones you make yourself! He uses different types of brushes for creating effects and also bits of wire if you are wanting to create a scar like effect. He showed us how you achieve these different effects and we all had a go at making a scar, i made a bullet hole which he said looked effective. First we created a lump then inbed the scar with a tool that we choose and cut around it, i then grazed with a brush and last i used a powder that reminded me of talcon powder to make it look more like the colour of skin,
(He once spent £8 on one small-paintbrush sized tool)

He gave us a mask that we passed around the class, the mask had one half of the face had a lot blood and gore and the other half looked more like a really old man with lots of wrinkles and fine detail.

This is a picture the mask before it was painted with lots of detail to make it look more real.

The detail on this mask focused on using texture and colour to create realistic skin defects and damage, such as boils, scars, wounds, warts and burns.
I am thankful to James Wood for giving his time to help us learn about this area of creative art. I knew little about the use of masks before these sessions and found it interesting to learn about the work that goes into designing, fitting and making them.

The Plague of the Zombies

Today i watched The Plague of the Zombies.

The Plague of the Zombies (1966Hammer Horror film directed by John Gilling. It stars André Morell, John Carson,Jacqueline Pearce, Brook Williams and Michael Ripper. Sir James Forbes and his daughter, Sylvia, travel to a cornish village, at request of a former pupil of Sir James Forbes. He needs help solving a spate of mysterious deaths, he fears his wife will be next. The main trail leads to the village squire who returned from Haiti with voodoo secrets, and tries to resurrect victims as zombies.

I thought the film was quite slow moving that reflects as it is a very old movie, nearer the end i started to get into it a lot more. It's interesting to see how much horror movies have developed over the years have gone by!
If a movie was released like that now i would have classed it has a PG, back then people would have found it more scary as they haven't seen many horrors before.

Hammer Horror(post 1)

Hammer Film Productions is a film production company based in the United Kingdom. Hammer horror production was founded by 1938.
Hammer Productional films have had low budgets, but some appeared rich, making use of very good British actors and cleverly designed sets.
They produced films all though the 50’s up to the 70’s mainly in the genre of Gothic horror. There main break though was a film called 'Quatermass Xperiment' which was directed by Val quest. Playing lead role in  'Quatermass Xperiment' was Brain Donlevy.  They named the film Xperiment rather than Experiment to cash on the new X certificate for horror films. All this success led to hammer producing an increasing amount of horror films, including two sequels Quatermass 2 (1957) and Quatermass and the pit (1967) leading to become synonymous with the genre.

Dracula is a 1958 British horror film, and the first of a series of Hammer Horror films inspired by the Bram Stoker novel DraculaDracula had a budget £81,412 and began principal photography on 11th november 1957. Dracula was an hudge success, breacking box-office records across the world. . A full legal agreement between Hammer and Universal was not completed until 31 March 1958  – after the film had already been shot – and was 80 pages long.

Hammer also produced science fictionthrillersFilm Noir and comedies – and in later years, television series.

James Ward

James Ward came in to demonstrate and inform us about how they mold the masking in films.
We discovered that  James Ward does model molding for productions for films and TV. He studied at Nation Film School Of Ireland.
In the lesson he showed us what the professionals do to create a model mold of someones face. He got a guy from the class to sit there while he created the mold of his face. He showed us this step by step he showed us what he does to make the mixture and demonstrated why you put a hair cap on the person you're molding. He said it was to protect any hair being pulled from the scalp we got shown to apply contact glue to stop anything sticking to the head hairline and forehead.
James Ward used LifeForm to mould the face around the guy he was demonstrating the process on. He used about a cup and a half of each moldlife. He rubs the moldlife all over the guys face to create the mold.
Straight after James Ward covered his face with plaster.
After it is dry, which took around 3 minutes, the mask comes off.
The whole processes of making the mold of the face took around 25 minutes from when he started to put the hair cap over his hair. I thought this would take longer.
He told us you should wear polyvinyl gloves not latex as latex can react with the skin safe cycole mixture.
I am surprised that how much work is done into just one mask and how much effort is put into each film with so many things and people behind it who don't get mentioned, molding someones face is just one out of many other things put into making a film.
I enjoyed seeing the end product. We all got to see the finished mold of his face by passing it around, it was interesting seeing how professional the mold looked.

Horror Stil

This is the horror still i created on photoshop and final cut. First we were put in different groups, I was in a group with nathan, christian and ita. We went out and took 10 different images all of different angles such as the over head shot and the close up. We edited it individually, i put our images on photoshop and changed them to black and white while adding some other effects to the still.  We had to include 10 different shot types to the final piece. I imported them all onto final cut and got editing. I enjoyed doing this, and adding the music which i think makes the whole thing a lot more scary.

twilight in 60 seconds video

Untitled from cmdiploma on Vimeo.

This is the video for the 60 second re-make of a film of our choice.
My group chose Twilight, new moon.
We tried to make the 60 second comical, one of the ways we did that was to have someone who was topless all the time as in the film Jacob always seems to be topless. And also we had a lot of scenes of the genny crying as in the film Bella always seems to be upset. Those were the two things we thought stood out in the film New Moon.
The link above is the edited video we made.

Creativity

Creativity
Creativity is a mental process involving the discovery of new i deas or concepts, or new associations of the existing ideas or concepts, fueled by the process of either conscious or unconscious insight.

You cannot use up creativity. The more you use the more you have.

Maya Angelou

Roger von Oech - Creative thinking involves imagining familiar things in a new light, digging below the surface to find previously undetected patterns, and finding connections among unrelated phenomena.

The creative person i chose is Matt Helders

(born 7 May 1986), he is the drummer for Arctic monkeys, an very astablished band from sheflield.

Helders has remixed many bands tracks and albums such as “T.H.E.H.I.V.E.S (We Rule The World)” and Duran Duran's second single from "Red Carpet Massacre". Matt is also rumoured to be drumming on the Prodigy's new album. He plays drums with We Are Scientists at some of their UK shows as well as remixing their second single "Chick Lit" as a b-side for the vinyl release. He is featured on Toddla T's new album "Skanky Skanky".
Matt  released  Late Night Tales: Matt Helders included a spoken work track performed and written by bandmate Alex Turner.

Helders is one of 3 creators of the Tramlines Festival in Sheffield. I think this is creative of him as he takes annotative of his home town and shows interest for the music and people from sheffield by creating the tramlines festival.
I think what makes him stand out from other creative people is the fact he is a drummer yet does a lot of things outside from that, the one i think stands out the most is the fact he has opened his own clothing line, i think this is very creative of him.

Clothing line

Helders has released his own clothing line, this clothing line consists of a jacket, a zip hood and three t-shirts. The garments went on sale in May 2007 with sales accompanied by a CD featuring an Arctic Monkeys remix by Matt himself and Supreme Being designer Skuff.
