Construction, Colour changing Digipack

I've recently made all the panels in my digipack a touch less purple as in my feedback they mentioned about the purple being quite in your face. Here is what i have done. Although purple can be seen as a 'girly' colour i think it suits the artist and will appear to the ladies wanting to buy the album.
I've been playing around with where i put the record label logo on the back cover but people have said it looks best where it is when i've tried other places.

Extra pannel latest, i can't get the colouring right for it to fit with the other panels made.

I like this design for the extra pannel, i used a neon effect on photoshop to create the background. This could be my final design

Construction, Planning for the Digipack

After getting feedback on the digipack i've been playing around with the colouring a lot trying to get the right colour for my album as that was the main issue raised. My feedback told me to make the purple a bit less in your face and also change one of the images as all 3 are samey. I have decided to use an image from the video on my Digipack.
I got told that my font was great so i will stick to the font i have. I'm not totally keen on what i have done as i think the colours used are a bit too 'hot' and a very bog contrast compared to the purple i used to have on the panel.
Despite some issue being raised over the yellow coloured font i like it, i have been trying other colours for fonts such as blue and red but they both didn't work with my images. I think yellow is the best colour for the font on my digipack.

I have also been playing around with my third panel as in the feedback they mentioned changing the last image used as it is samey to the other two on the back/front cover of the digipack.
This is what i have come up with for the third panel.
I quite like the colour of the darker panel here, i decided to use an image from our video as the third panel has lyrics from the song on and it makes sense to have a picture from the video on that panel.

Planning, Construction, Research. Sharing our final video with Tino Coury and his fans

We decided that we wanted Tino Coury's opinion on our music video. To do this we searched him on google, facebook, twitter etc to find sites on him.

Tino Coury's official site was useful as it had all the links to all we pages to do with him.

In the end we decided to choose '' to tweet to as they seem to tweet more often compared to the other twitter pages of 'tinofanpage' whose last update was all the way back on the 9th of January.
We also posted a video reply on the most viewed video on youtube for 'Three Chord Love Song' which will link back to our final video.

Media_httpgyazocome31_dtbec
The video will appear beside their video if they choose to accept our video response.
I'll be posting our video on Tino Courys myspace page later.

Final Product, Final Video!

This is our final music video!
All the feedback that we got helped us improve the video a lot especially with the rap and story line. In our rough cut of this video some of the lip syncing was out of sync which we have changed and that automatically makes the video look more professional.

Planning, some props used.

Here is a group photo of us after shooting our last bit of film we need for our video. And here is the famous HD camera we shot the video with.

In the video i wear a pear of blue chino like jeans and a blue vest top which is tight and a lot of modern day male pop stars wear tight tops which often look quite camp, i went for that look...

Construction, Colour Correction for our new footage.

We used colour correction for the scene when holly is ripping up the photo of Scott to show that they are over as a couple.

We also added colour correction on Dougs rapping part that we shot the other day after getting our feedback. We managed to light up his face to try give the effect that Doug was in the same location. We couldn't get the Junction again so we needed some sort of lighting effect as we didn't have the same lights as the Junction. I think this effect hides that we filmed it in the black room and emphasises the close ups well.
Curves
We used curves to to do this colour correction, it allows you to change the amount of colour, darkness and light. We only altered the red, blue, green combined with white. A straight curve shows us the light hasn't changed and when you move the curve the scene will get brighter or darker depending how what way you move it.

Construction, Filming potentially finished.

Today we finished filming the story line of our music video, i was camera man shooting the close ups of Scott throwing his hat on the floor in anger to show that him and Holly had broken up. I also shot a crane high angle shot of him doing this to show he was less important. I think we'll use these shots in an effective way with continuity editing and using the dark lighting from the dark room.
The problem we encountered when shooting was how dark the dark room actually was! We tried a few shots before deciding of shooting Scott near the door where the light is walking out as it was very unclear on the camera.

Planning, Todays filming and planning

This morning we have been talking and planning our shooting of todays story line.
We found a location to shoot it, the black room in the photography block as it doesn't look like it's part of the college. We wanted an effect of it being dark then Scott throwing his hat down in anger and walking out the door into the light showing that him and Holly are over so Tino Coury can take over.
Scott walks away from the red ish light (which is where the performance is being done) out into natural day light which implies he is leaving. I like the idea oh him throwing his hat on the floor. When someone throws there hat on the floor it typically means they are leaving in anger in this case he is leaving their relationship.

Research, Construction. More feedback from the rough cut of our video

I have been analyzing all the feedback we've been getting from our video. Here are a few screen grabs of responses that we have been getting.

From these responses the main thing we really need to work on is the location of our storyline. We have shot Dougs performance which went well. We plan to complete everything by the end of the week. Some people thought maybe the girl crying should be in a toilet or in a bedroom due to this being a typical place a girl retreats to when upset which was useful feedback but we feel the black room suits our video more as other responses said that a change of location and lighting would look odd and not suit the style of the video so we have decided to keep the scene of where Holly is crying and tearing up the photo of Scott. Catherine states that she isn't keen on the shot where Scott and Holly are fighting in front of Tino Coury so we will experiment on taking that shot out and seeing if the story still works. I had the idea of making a sheet with all the feedback we have got on our rough cut so it was easier to read.

The general positives from the feedback we collect was the location and the lighting which was an encouragement for me managing to organize it.

These are some positive feedback quotes by people.

The beginning is very catchy!! Stephan does a very good job in expressing in what's going on in the song and acting it out in reality!! Doug comes in at the right time! The argument between Holly and Scott is well filmed and Holly did a great job at it even though it was difficult for her ( keep going!!). The song itself is good and how it's filmed and put together, the lyrics match with the video and what happens in it! Holly ripping the picture and her showing how she's down.... The lights are great and the grey and color contrasts are well made!! The fading at the end was really good!! The ending was good as well and filmed well with Stephan and Holly!= )"
"The editing is very well done and the performance was very believable!"
"Plot was relevant to lyrics"

Here are some of the negative feedback we have been trying to sort out in our music video, all of the negative feedback has been very constructive for us!
"The location stays the same, which makes it feel a little 'Samey'."
"The rap part isnt really mimed up."
"Some parts of the lip syncing. On the stage with Doug."
"Locations for holly, plain!"
"Seeing the stage and the lights behind it, sort of gave it a rookie feel."
"the other acting wasnt bad but it could be improved"
"Fairly predictable, Not enough of Scott. Felt something should have brightened up a bit more when the singer was dancing with the girl dancing, the lighting and mood is pretty much the same all the way though bar the facial expressions."
"Keep the idea, Just expand it a little." -
"I don't think you should do different locations (eg. outside) because I don't think the feel/lighting would match up. I also think it'd look too obvious that you needed extra scenes and quickly put them in there. So if you were to do extra scenes, keep them similar to the setting they're already in. I don't think you really need too much more, but if you were going to add anything else, it'd be relationship scenes." - this bit of feedback was very interesting and raised a good point that i agree with!  the lighting throughout the whole of our video is dark with lighting and i agree with the fact that broad daylight would destroy the effort we put into creating style with using the Junction as our main performance location.  I am very happy with filming scott walking out of the dark in anger to finish the story line. I heard that natural outdoor lighting can very easily look unprofessional.

A lot of very good music video's have been an entire performance of the band or artist.  I don't think there needs to be a lot of detail in of the story line in our music video. Do we really need to know more than the fact that their relationship is over with the fault of the boyfriend? I like how the end of our video has me(Tino Coury) and Holly standing infront of each other happy, we don't see us kiss or anything which gives the audience opportunity to imagine what will happen next.

Research, Planning, Construction. Feedback from my class of our rough cut

These are some good feedback we got from our video, i was pleased that people in our class liked the location and thought it looked professional. I think the location could have looked very bad if we didn't have the lighting and the different angles used. It was also nice to hear that people liked the performance despite hearing this i still think my lip syncing could have been better! But i want to change angles where my lip syncing doesn't look totally in time to another angle where it is if possible. We have decided to re record the story line of our music video in another location, we are thinking of going to town and record it at perhaps christ piece of jesus green. We'll be shooting this Wednesday.

Negative Feedback.

I have also made a facebook group this morning and invited some friends to receive feedback from a wider audience.

Planning, Construction. filming and planning of the rap part(again)

Today we filmed and planned another performance of Dougs rap so we could get better close ups as we got feedback and that was one of the area's people said we could improve. We filmed it in the media room and i think it went well, we'll look forward to editing it in with the shots we have already. We needed lighting and the same HD camera that we had before so the footage looked the same. We are going to use coloured lighting so it looked the same as what we used at the junction. Despite this i have been watching many other pop video's that have a rapper in and usually they use a different location for when the rap comes in with different effects/lighting. This is something to think about, i still think it will look more original for the rap to be in two different locations as that doesn't usually happen in music video's. We shall see what happens...
We used a piece of paper to bounce the light off which i think worked really well.

Before filming today we thought about ways to make the lip syncing better so we don't make the same mistakes as before

Planning, Goals.

Goals! At the moment we are doing well with the rough outline of our music video and should be finished within next week sometime how ever it would be good to add some more idea's to it so we could have a rough cut.  >
This sheet was used to help us film the video so we had more of an idea of what we needed to do when at the Junction. Despite this the filming still took us around 4 hours. We put down some shot types and all the props we needed to bring on this sheet so we didn't forget. We also have a sheet for phone numbers for everyone who is in our group/video, this was a great help as we needed each others contact information when it came to meeting up at the junction.

We completed filming our filming wednesday by finishing the story line part of the music video. This was a shot of Holy ripping up a photo of her and her boyfriend to show that they were over and she had to move on. You then see Holy and Tino Coury together as the video goes on, we had to use after effects to correct the lighting so it was the same as the footage took at the junction.

Planning, Construction. Video so far

This is a rough cut of some clips from our perfomance side of the video. We've been talking about perhaps re-doing the story of our video in another location as the story line isn't completely clear by the footage we took at the junction. I think it still needs work as i can see a couple bits at the start when the lip syncing is out of time with the music but i like the fact that the editing is fast and upbeat. At the start of the video there are two images of  the artist this is because we are trying to show both bits of our music video, the performance of the artist and the artist writing the love song.

Planning. Work today helping other groups

Today i really have to get busy, i've been asked to perform in another groups music video as singer even though it took me weeks to learn our song. So i'm on repeat with there song called 'Everytime i look for you' by Blink-182 which to be honest is the kind of music i stay away from so i'm not looking forward to this one. They'll be performing in the media room i just feel bad as i'm not great at learning lyrics but i am trying my best! I have also just been shot playing drums for another group which isn't so bad as i can pick up the drums a lot better than lyrics!

Research. Analysis of the video 'Under Cover Of Darkness.

In this video by The Strokes there seems to be around 4 different set ups but all seem to be in the same building which is interesting. There are various takes of the band rocking in the posh building with a 4 class meal.
The whole band are wearing suits with their own different styles of doing so with the singer when in the location of the leather sofa wearing a leather jacket and sun glasses which looks very rock'n'roll. I like that the band keep perfoming at different places in the same building in this video, my favourite being on stage at the theatre with a guy composing as if it were a classical peice.
I like the tracking shot from the posh red chair all the way back to the table of candles to the band playing. I think this shot is effective because it comes in just as the lyrics and vocals to the song start so you usually expect to see the singer but this is different in a good way.
All the editing in this video is spot on with the beat and usually at the end of each bar or roll complimenting the music.

Research, Analysis of the video 'I bet you look good on the dancefloor'

The music video of Arctic Monkey's song 'I bet you look good on the dancefloor' is purely performance based and only has one location.
They have the whole band performing live at a venue that has a similar set up to the junction(where we shot our video)
This was their first single and was released on 17 October 2005 by the label Domino. The song went straight to #1 on the UK Singles Chart, beating Sugababes and Robbie Williams.
This video has quite a few different camera angles and there is a cut every 2-3 seconds changing the angle which keeps your interest.
At 22 seconds it has a close up of Alex Turners(singer) guitar as guitar is the main instrument at that point of the song,
Even though the song got to number #1 it doesn't look like a high profile budget video as there isn't a story line and you can see back staff and the camera man on the stage at some points in the video. But that could have been what they were looking for in the video? We shall never know.
I think the reason that i like this video is because the timing with both the lyrics and the music is spot on!
That is definitely something we need to try do with our video as what we are doing so far my lip syncing doesn't look entirely in time all the time but we have a lot to edit so we shall try do this.

Planning, Construction. Today and this weeks work

Today we will start to edit the footage we took at the junction on wednesday!
This weeks work will be mostly editing as we have a lot of footage to edit.
We have got 45 clips to import to final cut now, so far it's been importing for 15minutes and only imported 5 of those 45 clips so we might have to start editing on monday at this rate!!

Research, Digipack

I wanted to get some feedback from friends etc on my digipack to see what they thought of it so i posted it on facebook. I think the idea of having the guitar panel as the cd panel was creative as the CD fits inside the sound hole of the guitar and the black almost looks as if it could be a CD.
